Accessibility
Statement
We believe every guest deserves access
Cloak & Petal is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all people, including those with disabilities. We are continually working to improve the user experience for everyone and applying relevant accessibility standards to our website.
We take an ongoing, proactive approach — building accessibility into our code rather than relying on overlay tools that obscure underlying barriers. If you experience difficulty accessing any content on our site, please contact us directly and we will respond promptly.
Partially conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We are actively working to reach full conformance across all pages.
Guidelines we follow
We aim to meet the following standards:
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA — Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.
- ADA Title III — We comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements as they apply to places of public accommodation, including our online presence.
- Section 508 — Where applicable, we align with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended in 1998.
Accessibility measures in place
The following accessibility features have been implemented across this website:
- Skip navigation link on every page to bypass repetitive content
- All images include descriptive alternative text, or are marked decorative where appropriate
- Sufficient color contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1) for all body text and interactive elements
- Semantic HTML with proper heading hierarchy on every page
- Keyboard-navigable navigation and interactive elements with visible focus indicators
- ARIA landmarks and labels applied throughout (main, nav, footer, sections)
- Video playback can be paused via an on-screen control; auto-playing video is muted by default
- Decorative animations respond to the OS-level "Reduce Motion" preference
- Japanese text elements are tagged with
lang="ja"for correct screen reader pronunciation - Minimum touch target size of 44×44px on interactive elements
- Mobile navigation is operable by keyboard and includes Escape key dismissal
- Reservation and contact forms use visible labels and error descriptions
Areas we are actively improving
Despite our best efforts, some areas of the website may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA. Known limitations include:
- Third-party reservation widget (OpenTable) — accessibility is managed by OpenTable and outside our direct control. We encourage guests who experience issues to contact us directly to make a reservation by phone.
- Older press and media documents (PDFs) may not be fully tagged for screen readers.
- Some decorative background images may lack additional context in complex scenarios.
We are working to remediate these limitations. If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know so we can address it.
